State of Louisiana Court of Appeal, Fourth Circuit

The Louisiana 4th Circuit Court of Appeal launched their eCourt [make eCourt a hyperlink if you canhttps://ecourt.la4th.org/login.aspx] allowing filings of writs and all briefs through this electronic system up until midnight.  In addition to mandatory review of tutorial videos, they provide comprehensive instructions readily available on their website, including number of copies necessary, prices, etc.  Writs require a Writ Application Intake Form that MUST be signed by the filing attorney.  Of particular interest, payment is made only via through a credit card system. As of this post of Sept 2018, your best option for payment is Visa, MC, Discover Card.  While they take Amex, there’s glitches making it difficult to process that card.  You will not receive a clocked copy, but rather, you will have to order a clocked copy and pay for that separately. (Hint: I have had luck with calling and asking they email a copy at no charge. I suspect if not abused, they may continue this courtesy at least for a time).  You must mail your original and only 1 copy. The charges paid via credit card go toward the cost of their printing and distributing to the judges.  Additionally, you must read the guidelines where it specifically states what size pdf is allowed. You will need to reduce the size of your image when scanning using your DPI feature on your copy machine.  If it is too big with exhibits, it can be broken down. DO NOT wait until the last minute to file. Allow yourself time for it to go through the system or you may risk not getting it filed by the deadline.  [DISCLAIMER: These are helpful hints and tips. Please see the court website for the rules and guidelines. Beacon Litigation cannot be held responsible for these transactions.]  Getting a login and signing up is instant, but I suggest you go ahead and get your login now!  Suzie
